Unpacking The New Hermès Geta

While I’m usually hearing about the “B/K/C Triumvirate,” I have to admit that more than a few times lately, I’m hearing questions about one of Hermès’ newer designs: the Geta. As the Hermès website explains about this design, the bag is “named after the Japanese wooden platform sandals which inspired it” and notes the expanded H-clasp, which serves several purposes, including as a focal point for the design, magnetic closure, feet (the bag rests on the bottom of the H plaques instead of the base) and an adjustment mechanism for the fully-adjustable strap. The measurements are 8.5” long, 5.1” high, and 2” deep, and the cost is $5,800 US (in Chevre leather).

The Geta or The Constance?

Some people see the Geta as a more casual (and available) version of the Constance. However, I would argue that this bag looks more like a cross between the Constance and the Colorado bag (which was discontinued a while ago).

Interestingly, the back looks just like the front, except the H-plaque is just for appearance on the backside, and the base does not open.

What Will The Geta Fit?

The inside is pretty roomy; TPFer @cravin took interior measurements of 19cm wide, 11cm high, 6cm wide. The interior features a back inside pocket and two smaller card slots on the front.

The strap is not only adjustable, but it’s also long enough so that the bag can be worn crossbody and is canvas, like the Evelyne.

While it is definitely not a large bag, it is large enough to hold all the necessities; definitely more than a Mini Constance, but not quite as much as a Mini Lindy.

People who have taken the plunge on the Geta seem to love the bag, and it definitely has a useful place in any wardrobe.
