The Louis Vuitton Classic That's Making A Major Comeback
Back in 2023, we discussed whether or not the Speedy Bag was losing its luster, disappearing from the wild, and becoming far less popular than it had been in years past. While its ubiquity has ebbed and flowed over the nine decades since it was first released, there’s a reason why the Speedy remains both a fashion and a cultural icon.
Not only is the Speedy bag virtually indestructible (after all, Monogram canvas was designed to withstand travel), but it is incredibly easy to wear, relatively affordable, and undeniably chic. This year, fashion fans are once again returning to the iconic silhouette, and as the year winds down, we’re seeing Speedy after Speedy IRL.
Why the Renaissance?
2024 was primed for a Speedy renaissance. With a return to many iconic silhouettes from the 2000s (think halter tops, ballet flats, low-rise everything, and more), it’s only fitting that the Louis Vuitton Speedy, which arguably had its biggest boom in the 2000s, made a comeback.
Then, Pharrell solidified its renaissance when he revived and refreshed the original Speedy bag for his first Louis Vuitton menswear collection. The emblematic Speedy bag was back in the limelight.
Founded with a sense of wearability and adaptability, it seems only fitting that New York girls have been the ones to immediately embrace the Speedy’s return, pulling theirs out from the depths of their closets this fall and winter. The Speedy bag is one of those rare bags that you’ll never get rid of, and rarely tire of, regardless of how many years it goes untouched.
We can’t get enough of seeing them back in the wild, and with the unprecedented return of LV x Murakami’s Multicolore line, the Speedy boom is about to hit overdrive, and we are here for it.
