Loewe Collaborates With Howl’s Moving Castle On A Special Capsule Collection

Much like the world of handbags for handbag collectors, the fantasy world is a magical, magnificent escape for film lovers. Loewe celebrates the magical world of animated film in a new capsule collection designed in collaboration with the Japanese animated film Howl’s Moving Castle. This collection is not the first time Loewe and creative director Jonathan Anderson have partnered with Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Anderson previously launched two collections depicting characters from the film Spirited Away.

Howl’s Moving Castle is one of the most commercially successful Japanese films in history, and it also happens to be a favorite of Jonathan Anderson’s. A heartfelt, fulfilling film full of fantasy with a sense of realism, Anderson expressed how it offers “a commentary on the moment and an alternative to it,” which feels poignant to the world we live in now. It tells a story of loyalty and compassion set against a backdrop of a fictional kingdom at war.

Fan-Favorites Given a Twist of Fantasy

This collection pushes the boundaries of creativity with bold, intricate pieces that pay homage to the innovation within Howl’s Moving Castle. The film blends hand-drawn and digital animation, and the collection pieces are meant to literally bring the film to life. The collection allows its wearer to identify with the film; in Anderson’s words, they are “almost like handcrafted virtual reality in wearable form.”

Loewe’s most beloved silhouettes feature the film’s key characters—Sophie, Howl, fire demon Calcifer, Turnip Head, and more. The characters animate clothing and accessories throughout the collection; some of the most important pieces are the bags. House staples like the Puzzle, Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona, Bracelet Pouch, and new House icon, the Luna, showcase scenes from the film, standing out in bold colors like orange, blue and red.
