Dior Settles Down And Gets Sophisticated With Its Pre-Fall 2018 Bags

A lot has been happening on the aesthetic front at Dior in the past several seasons. Celebrated designer Raf Simons left unexpectedly and took his sleek, feminine futurism with him, after which the brand appointed Maria Grazia Chiuri, half of the duo responsible for Valentino‘s gangbusters success over the last decade. It was immediately clear that Chiuri’s vision for Dior was different from Simons’ in many ways: it was far more casual, it had a decidedly more vintage feel, even the use of color was world’s apart. (Simons tended toward brights or pastels in his time at Dior; Chiuri prefers dark neutrals, theming an entire recent collection around navy.)

In that time, the bags also got casual and dark, which was an interesting exercise for the brand but worried some people who found themselves still enamored of Dior’s longstanding traditional femininity. For lovers over the new and old Diors alike, the recently released Pre-Fallv 2018 lookbook holds promise; the bags are dark and often feature the bold hardware logos Chiuri has introduced, but many of them also have a dainty, classically feminine appeal to them that may satiate purists. In addition to those new bags, there are both old favorites like the Lady Dior and new bags included in the lineup, which overall skews toward black. Check out all of the bags below.
