Celebrate Virgil Abloh's Legacy With One Of His Last Bags For Louis Vuitton

Back in December, the fashion world was stunned by the loss of one of the most prolific designers of our time, Virgil Abloh. Virgil Abloh was many things to many people, and he left behind a legacy that will forever remain. He was one of the pioneers in the luxury streetwear space, paving the way for other young designers, particularly those of color. While the designer was quietly battling a rare form of cancer, he continued working until the very end, and over the last six months, the last of his work has continued to wow, touching those who loved and knew Virgil and also those who did not.

One of the projects that Virgil worked on alongside his team at Louis Vuitton before his untimely passing was the brand’s Pre-Fall 2022 collection. This one, like collections past, contains obvious odes to streetwear throughout, as well as many of Virgil’s brand signifiers. Bold patterns sit alongside an exaggerated Damier check, and the collection as a whole (RTW, bags, and accessories) is mostly wearable. This assortment juxtaposes change and conventionalism, paying tribute to Virgil Abloh’s distinct creative process.

While this collection is precisely Virgil, it’s also inherently Louis Vuitton, with unmistakable nods to the Maison’s signature DNA. Standout pieces from the collection show classic LV Monogram with a twist—finished in a blue and white colorway with a bandana print. Classic House shapes like the Keepall, and the Soft Trunk, popularized during Virgil Abloh’s reign, appear dressed in this print throughout the collection. One of the things that Virgil was good at was making pieces that would not only wow, but appeal to a wider audience. Made for men, it’s this colorway that can be worn by anyone, with a unique bleach effect finish that allows bags to feel stylish and casual, yet elevated.
