An Ode To The Gucci Hasler Hobo

The Gucci Horsebit has been a symbol of the Italian brand for over 70 years, and under Alessandro Michele and his successor, the Horsebit motif continues to shine. This year, Gucci celebrates 70 years of its iconic Horsebit bag, so it comes as no surprise that Gucci continues to breathe new life into the storied House code, which is integral to the brand’s DNA.

Spring 2025 immediately felt reminiscent of the Gucci archives, with its bold colors and modern interpretations of archival details. I was instantly obsessed. Then came Pre-Fall 2025 and later Fall 2025, which echoed similar sentiments and expanded upon the return of the Half-Horsebit motif.

While in the early 2020s, Gucci was primarily defined by the classic Horsebit, in the mid-2020s, it’s all about the return to the oversized Half-Horsebit. Its comeback has me taking a step back in time to 2000s Gucci and the Gucci Hasler Hobo.

The Hasler Is Worth Revisiting—Here’s Where to Find One Today

I remember this bag fondly because my Aunt had one—a classic brown GG Canvas bag with Gucci web. It was the late 2000s, and the bag’s slouchy, hobo shape was perfect for the times, and the vintage versions are just as relevant today with the Half-Horsebit’s return.

When researching this bag, little information was available on the Hasler’s exact release date, though tPFers first started chatting about it in 2006. A commenter pointed out that it was designed by Alessandra Facchinetti in 2005, between the Tom Ford and Frida Giannini eras.

The Hasler came in a few different sizes, mainly as a shoulder bag, as I remember it best, but occasionally with a longer strap. I’ve also seen crossbody silhouettes circulating. There were a variety of different versions, from the classic GG logo canvas to suede, ponyhair (I will be scouring the resale market for this one!), and even Gucci Flora.

Do you remember this bag?
